Björn Ulvaeus

Björn Ulvaeus grew up with folk music, rock and pop music. During his studies he played in the band Hootenanny Singers that became known around Sweden.

1966 he met with Björn Ulvaeus and they started to write songs together. Their band ABBA started in 1970 with Agneta Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad  and played together until 1983. After meeting with Tim Rice in 1981 Björn and Benny started to work on their first musical Chess, which premiered in London 1986. A musical based on songs by ABBA, Mamma Mia! premiered in London 1999 and has since been performed around the world and made into a movie. Björn was also part of translating the musical to Swedish.

1999 Björn was awarded the royal medallion Litteris et Artibus for his artistic work.
